"It is an opportunity"
YFU: Why did you choose to go to an exchange?
Alex: Because it is an opportunity which gives you a lot of information about other countries. You come back to your home country with a lot of experience and more knowledge about the whole world.
And why did you choose the Czech republic?
Because the country itself cought my attention - how the weather is, how the geography is. You can see the difference of the weather in the Czech republic and Brasil :) And the history a little bit, too.
And when you came here, what impressed you the most?
That everything is on time here! And maybe the behaviour of people here. It is kind of cold. Comparing to Brasil. But with my friends here and with people of YFU, it is not like that.
"We make jokes with my friends here"
What is your favourite Czech word?
"Ty vole" :D (literally translated, it is "you, ox", depending on the context it can mean "you idiot", "dude", or dirty words) It is what they use the most in my class so it is always in my head. And I use it also. Sometimes, we make jokes of it with my friends here.
Which word is difficult to pronounce for you?
I don´t know. Maybe "řeřicha" ("cress"). The "ř" letter is difficult for me, something between "z", "r" and some strange noises. My family tried to teach me how to pronounce the "ř" but... no way.
"I have the experience to live in a foreign country"
What do you do in your free time?
I play in a volleyball team twice a week. And now I have also the longboard so I learn how to use it. And I chat with my friends or with my YFU friends.
If you could tell me one thing you have learnt on your exchange, what would it be?
The language of course. And the experience to live in a foreign country. And I learned also how to behave myself at home, to help more. I learned how to cook palačinky - pancakes :) And how to behave to other people from different countries.
"It changed my ideas"
Do you think that you have changed?
A lot! People go to an exchange to change. And if they don´t change, the exchange time is wasted. But I think that I change my ideas and how to behave.
How do you feel at Czech school? Is it harder for you than in Brasil?
It is harder because of the language. Even though it is going better, it is still sometimes hard to understand some words. But I think it is harder here than my school in Brasil. Even if I knew the language it would be harder.
Do you have a message for future exchange students?
Oh, just don´t be afraid of the school. I said it was hard but I mean, it is not impossible. I was afraid before I came here but then I got here, got the four in maths and everybody in my class got five and I was just so happy :) (school marks: 4 means D, 5 means F) You can make better than the students here :)
Thank you for the interview!
