Directly after your arrival, mostly in September, all the inbound students meet up for a 3 days weekend seminar to prepare themselves fot their year in Czech Republic. Our volunteers will try to explain to you the Czech lifestyle and will welcome you in your host country by organising trips and fun activities for you.
In January or February we meet again to talk about your exchange year so far, about your personal achievments, about the problems you might have experienced and about your plans for the coming months. This meeting is held in form of a skiing camp – that means you can learn how to ski, even if you have never seen snow before!
At the end of your experience we organise a pre departure seminar for you. Saying good-bye and going home can be difficult and this seminar is meant to help you with this. This orientation is combined with the preparation orientation for our Czech students who will go on an exchange year and so you will have the possibility to meet them and talk with them about your year in fluent Czech!
Throughout the year, we organise meetings in Prague or Ostrava regions for all students, host families and contact persons. Topics are always different - we go bowling, visit a glass factory or one of marvelous castles - each and every meeting is unique! These informal meetings are perfect bonding opportunities and a wonderful place to discuss further plans!
In order to help you in to adapt to your new Czech life, YFU CZ organises Colored Glasses workshops in your class in the school that you attend. Colored Glasses are workshops on the topic of cultural understanding, discrimination and equality on an interactive basis. Their aim is to help you and your classmates understand each other better. We also organise presentations about our programs in schools, where you will also be invited to talk about your exchange experience in the Czech Republic! There, you can be the motivation for future students who are interested in going on exchange!
At the very end of your YFU exchange year, you will have the opportunity to attend the YES - Young Europeans' Seminar in Berlin, Germany. So far, the YES was just for European students on exchange in Europe, but since 2017, all YFU students on exchange Europe - regardless from which continent they come from, are allowed and encouraged to go to the YES! Our Czech volunteers accompany the students to this 5 day biggest YFU event in the world, which gathers around 500 students and prepares them for their return home in a fantastic YFU atmosphere!
