It happens rather often, that host countries become "second homes' for many students. Mira, from Germany, is no exception. She came to the Czech Republic in summer of 2015 and is enjoying her exchange to the fullest. Read her story, where she explains how she struggled with Czech language at the beginning of her exchange. 

"When I think back to the days when I didn't understand anyting in Czech, I really have to smile..."

I’m now here for about 6 months and it seems to me like such a short time. Time flies so fast here, I can’t Mira_2describe. When I think back to the days when I didn’t understand anything in Czech I really have to smile a bit about myself. It feels even better then, because you can see how much you’ve improved. I used English every day in the beginning. Now I only use it when I really need something important from my friends or so. Except of that, I only speak Czech. My family helped me a lot with the language and they are always there for me. I really feel like a part of the family, and I guess that is very important. The host family couldn’t fit better for me. Also my friends in school are very patiently with me. They always try to motivate me to speak Czech, which is so nice. All in all I’m so happy here. I don’t want to think about leaving in a few months. That seems so impossible to me.
