Friday in Prague: First Time Ice Skating & Pizza Night
The adventure began in Prague on Friday afternoon. Hannah from Japan and Pietro from Brazil tried ice skating for the very first time in their lives – and although the beginning involved a bit of uncertain balancing, they quickly got the hang of it. In the end, not only they enjoyed the skating, but all the other students as well, cheering each other on and having fun together on the ice.
After skating, we took a short walk through the center of Prague and then headed to the YFU office, where we ordered pizza. We spent the evening playing games – UNO quickly turned into a loud and hilarious tournament that lifted everyone’s spirits for the entire weekend. We slept in the office to be ready for our early Saturday departure to Vienna.
Saturday in Vienna: A Joint Adventure with YFU Austria and Hungary
Early Saturday morning, we boarded a bus to Vienna, where we met inbound students from YFU Austria and YFU Hungary. It was amazing to see how quickly everyone connected – sometimes all it takes is the shared experience of living abroad, and different nationalities suddenly stop being a barrier.
After arriving, we first explored the area around Stephansplatz, enjoyed local treats, and soaked in the first touches of Christmas atmosphere. Then we started a Treasure Hunt across Vienna’s beautiful landmarks. Students completed all kinds of challenges – from themed photos to getting a selfie with a random group of tourists. Our team even won the award for Best Team Spirit, perfectly capturing the mood of the whole day.
After lunch, we visited the Austrian Parliament. The tour offered an interesting insight into how a modern European institution works – from the building’s history to the current role of the parliament, which strives to stay open and accessible to the public and younger generations.
We ended the day at the Vienna Christmas markets, where we enjoyed the lights, the scent of punch, and traditional Austrian treats. Spending time together with students from the Czech Republic, Austria, and Hungary created a warm international atmosphere that is so typical of YFU.
Sunday: A Calmer Pace Before Heading Home
On Sunday morning, we split into two groups – one went ice skating again, while the other visited the Natural History Museum. The museum impressed not only science enthusiasts but also those who simply wanted to enjoy the beautiful exhibitions and take a break after Saturday’s busy schedule.
To wrap up the weekend, we visited the Christmas markets once more, this time during the day when they were much less crowded – the perfect moment to buy small gifts and souvenirs. In the afternoon, we headed back home, and the students continued straight to their host families, full of impressions and new experiences.
The entire weekend was filled with shared energy, adventure, and a cozy pre-Christmas atmosphere. The students enjoyed the trip to the fullest, made new friends, and brought home memories they will cherish for a long time. Advent Vienna has its own magic – and this year, thanks to YFU, we experienced it completely.
