Czech Easter from Italian perspective

Czech Easter from Italian perspective
Datum:

Rita is an exchange student from Italy that is spending her year abroad in the Czech Republic. We have asked her to tell us how she has spend the Easter holidays in Czechia and what does she think about it.

This year my Easter was quite different from the other years…

I'm living since the end of January in Dolní Benešov, a little village in the Moravian Silesia
region here in the Czech Republic and my host parents have decided to bring me to see the easter
traditions in the south.

16 april

The first day we went to visit Lednice castle, I was surprised when I saw how wonderful it is. We went through the botanic garden and we visited the inside of the castle with my host mum. After we saw the minaret with my host sister, the Turkish Tower in the grounds of Lednice Castle Gardens, we went up and we saw the beautiful view of all the gardens and castle we went to see a nice show of eagles and other particular birds that was always located in the garden, despite the cold we had a lot of fun. To finish the day we ate a good hamburger near the castle, tasted of Italy! :)

17 april

The second day we went to another castle, Valtice, where I could see a lot of easter traditions, starting from the painting eggs, moving into the singing guys in the streets, it was nice and we took some pictures with some girls with typical clothes and tasted nice food, I tried a green beer, cz people usually drink it for the Zelený čtvrtek, so for the Thursday before easter ( ps, if u go there remember to bring a lot of money for all the magic souvenirs).

18 april

On the 18 of april, we saw all the kids with the whip, I was quite surprised when i first heard about this tradition but it was maybe the funnies thing. Boys would whip girls lightly on the legs and possibly douse them with water, all of this have a symbolic meaning and would keep the girls healthy, beauty and fertility through the following year. I'm happy that I was still in the car coming back in my village so I escape from this ahah.
